What does a grounds maintenance operative do?

As a grounds maintenance operative, you can expect to carry out a wide range of duties related to general grounds maintenance, keeping gardens and outdoor areas neat, tidy and well-maintained.

The tasks you can expect to do may include:

What qualifications, skills and experience do I need to be a landscape maintenance operative?

You will find that many grounds maintenance jobs require you to have a driving licence. In addition, some may ask that you have a CSCS card, which verifies your identity and any training and qualifications you have. A PA1 and PA6 spraying licence for the use of pesticides.

The skills and experience needed will depend on the specific landscaping job role and the requirements of the employer. Often a year or two of landscaping and grounds maintenance experience is preferred as well as knowledge and interest in plants and horticulture.
